This March, Nu Metro Cinemas’ Girls’ Night Out brings you Shailene Woodley (The Secret Life of the American Teenager) as 16-year-old Tris in Divergent. Based on the novel by Veronica Roth, the movie is set in a futuristic dystopia where society is divided into five factions, each representing a different virtue. In this society, 16-year-olds have to decide if they want to stay in their faction or switch to another—for the rest of their lives. Tris makes a choice that surprises everyone, and she and her fellow faction members have to live through a highly competitive initiation process in order to live out the choices they have made. They must undergo extreme physical and intense psychological tests that transform them all. Tris has a secret she's kept hidden, because, if anyone knew, it would spell certain death.

Girls’ Night Out: Divergent (LADIES ONLY!) is on Wednesday, March 26, from 19:00 at Nu Metro Bedford Centre, Canal Walk, Clearwater Mall, Emperors Palace, Galleria, Hyde Park, Loch Logan, Menlyn Park, Montecasino, Mountain Mill, Riverside Mall, The Glen, The Pavilion, V&A Waterfront, Walmer Park and Woodlands. The movie starts at 20:00, but ladies are invited to arrive earlier to take part in the fun and festivities that are Nu Metro Cinemas’ Girls’ Night Out.

Emily, the daughter of a wealthy businessman, arrives in Miami with aspirations of becoming a professional dancer, but soon falls in love with Sean, a young man who leads a dance crew in elaborate, cutting-edge flash mobs. See it Real with New RealD 3D Screens - Coming to Nu Metro Cinemas

Today, we’re announcing that we’ve signed an amended agreement with RealD, Inc. to install up to 100 RealD 3D Cinema Systems in our cinemas. We currently have 44 cinemas equipped with RealD 3D technology, and we plan to install a further 41 soon. More will follow over the next 18 months as we convert all of our cinemas.

Our Content Executive, Mark Harris, says that “with over a quarter of our cinemas already having undergone the conversion, the remainder will be completed within the next 12 to 18 months. This extended relationship with RealD enables us to deliver cutting edge 3D technology, so we can offer a fully immersive entertainment experience to our customers, every time.”

RealD Europe’s Robert Mayson, Managing Director, said “Nu Metro Cinemas is a progressive circuit with a focus on delivering a premium entertainment experience. From Africa’s largest RealD 3D screen at Nu Metro Montecasino to Privé seating for a luxury cinema experience, this expansion of 3D capability will allow more South African moviegoers than ever to experience the upcoming blockbuster movies in RealD 3D.”

• Africa’s largest RealD 3D screen, a 23,5 m behemoth, is at Nu Metro Montecasino in Johannesburg.
• Africa’s first all-digital and RealD 3D-enabled cineplex opened in November, 2009 at Nu Metro Emperors Palace, also in Johannesburg.
• Selected 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ matches were broadcast live and in RealD 3D to 14 Nu Metro cinemas around the country in June of 2010.
• Nu Metro showed Bokkie, a short film featuring its namesake, the South African Rugby Union’s Mascot, exclusively, in July, 2010, at all of our RealD 3D cinemas, before every 3D movie.
• The music video for The Parlotones’ single, Should We Fight Back (part of the “Stardust Galaxies” album), was also shown exclusively on all Nu Metro Cinemas’ RealD 3D screens before the 3D dance spectacular, Step Up 3. (The next film in this series hits screens on August 17, 2012!)
• Continuing the innovation, Nu Metro and The Parlotones broadcast the world’s first live 3D rock theatre production, Dragonflies and Astronauts, into Nu Metro RealD 3D cinemas across the country.

Movie Fanatics Turns 1!

Nu Metro Cinemas has had an exciting year with plenty of new developments, initiatives and interesting activations – all targeting the ‘more entertaining’ ideal.

A year ago, Nu Metro Cinemas launched an exciting loyalty programme called Movie Fanatics, in partnership with Exclusive Books, and members have had access to great benefits and promotions.

Nu Metro Cinemas’ General Manager Danie Van Der Merwe is excited about Fanatics, asserting that the initial idea was to expand the existing Fanatics programme to one of a ‘leisure’ or ‘lifestyle’ orientation, ensuring that the programme's integrity was maintained, all while adding moviegoers to the already burgeoning Exclusive Books loyalty programme. "We're now talking to new book buyers as well as new moviegoers."

For a year now, Fanatics has had access to the new movie benefits and added value that Nu Metro Cinemas brought to the programme, such as ‘Woza Wednesday,’ ‘Friday Date Night’ and ‘Sunday Family Feast,’ while extending the audience for Nu Metro's already highly-regarded free online booking, reserved seating everywhere, and the latest movie updates straight to subscribers’ email inboxes.

To celebrate Movie Fanatics' 1st birthday, Nu Metro Cinemas has just introduced a new benefit called Most Wanted Teen & Student Mondays. This offer entitles student and teen Fanatics to 2D movie tickets for R 25 on Mondays (R 45 for 3D), as well as the new R 25 special Coke and popcorn combo.
